Overview

 

This course introduces students to the three components of Earth Science Associates’ GOM3 software. Participants work with the data of GOM3 using specific examples to learn the functionality offered within GOM3 and GIS in general. Searching for data, performing analysis and illustrating the efficiency of GOM3 are covered.

This course is for those who know the most basic fundamentals of ArcGIS and geographic information systems in general.

GOM3 data loading: Overview of GOM3 for ArcGIS toolbar, loading of data through pull-down menus, interaction as a GIS

 

Well Analysis: Using tools to extract and analyze a well in a myriad of ways

 

Oil Behind the Pipe: Spatial and logical analysis to search for potential resources

 

Data Integration: Bringing data together from different sources for analysis

 

Company Analysis with Discoveries and Prospects: Querying data by distance, creating printable maps

 

3-D GIS: Learning 3-D GIS tools and the ability to perform GIS functions in 3-D; creation of surfaces based on paleo tops; attributing completions to specific paleo zones

 

GOM3-Online Internet Map Service: Searching the Gulf of Mexico using only a web browser; accessing reports, charts and well logs just as in ArcGIS

 

Direct Report Access: Working with non-GIS based program to quickly gather data

 

Prerequisites and recommendations

 

Registrants should know how to use Microsoft Windows. Students should have a fundamental understanding of GIS and be familiar with the basic tools of ArcMap (zoom, pan, identify, etc.). For those who want to gain a basic understanding of ArcGIS quickly, “Fundamentals of ArcGIS For the Petroleum Industry” is recommended.
